The Child’s Need for Nature

Join The Escondido Creek Conservancy at the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve Interpretive Center on Saturday, August 20th at 5 p.m. for a talk by Anne Hanley, Ph.D., “The Child’s Need for Nature”. Anne is a Co-director of Sky Mountain Institute and currently teaches in the Child Development Department at both Mira Costa and Palomar Colleges while also serving as a certified infant/toddler trainer for the State of California and WestEd. A learning and developmental specialist for more than forty years, Anne also comes with a rich background in education and ecopsychology.

Drawing on the growing research around the child’s need for nature and direct hands-on discovery and immersion in nature’s processes, Anne will speak to the importance of nature to the developing child. She will address the very real threat of what is now being called “nature deficit disorder.”
