Adventure Camp 2022 Recap
Adventure camp has come to a close for this summer! Four separate weeks of camp took place at the Interpretive Center in the Elfin Forest Recreation Reserve from June 20 to July 29.
This five-day camp for kids ages 7-10 had a daily theme campers focused on including Exploration and Discovery, Plants and Pollinators, Amazing Animal Adaptations, Watershed Wonders and Pollution and the Solution.
We held daily hikes at the Oak Woodlands and the Way Up Trail in order to learn about how quickly habitats can change. Something fun was always on the schedule! Science activities and experiments, such as testing the pH balance (measuring the acidity or alkalinity) of the Escondido Creek, were always incorporated into our time out in nature.
Marvin Valverde, an insect expert with Sky Hunters Raptor Rehabilitation, and EcoVivarium appeared to share an up close look at some amazing animals throughout each week. Campers got to see and learn about creatures varying from Great horned owls to a plethora of snakes!
Paired with this educational experience were games, play time at Grape Day Park and oodles of fun for all!
We’ll be making some improvements and hopefully be back next summer to reach even more 7-10 year olds in the Escondido area. Be on the lookout for registration to open in spring 2023!
