Buy a brick to leave a legacy of conservation
The Escondido Creek Conservancy has launched a buy-a-brick campaign to replenish its land acquisition fund.
For as little as $100, donors can memorialize their commitment to the environment and leave their mark on the grounds of the Conservancy’s new headquarters, called Boulder Outlook, which is under construction in Hidden Meadows.
The land fund is covering costs to improve the old duplex and grounds at Boulder Outlook. Construction is budgeted at $650,000.
“Our fundraising goal is to reimburse every dollar drawn from the land fund,” said Meghan Williams, development associate. “It is important that the land fund remain available for land acquisition and conservation.”
In 2018, the Conservancy bought Boulder Outlook as part of 700-acre acquisition at Hidden Meadows. The farm duplex came with the purchase.
In addition to offices for the Conservancy’s staff, the remodeled building will provide space for small gatherings and a base of operations for hundreds of volunteers and supporters. A ribbon-cutting is expected later this year.
Architect Drew Hubbell designed the remodel. Landscape architect Glenn Schmitt’s outdoor designs play off of natural surroundings that include mature trees, massive boulders and sweeping mountain views. The landscaping plan includes an entryway and patio hardscaped with engraved bricks.
The bricks will pay permanent tribute to the generosity of donors.
Inscriptions can recognize the name of a family, foundation or business. A 4- by 8-inch brick with space for three, engraved lines at 18 characters per line can be purchased for $100. An 8- by 8-inch brick, with six lines at 18 characters per line, can be purchased for $250.
