Earth Week Event Takes Out The Trash.

The Escondido Creek Conservancy and I Love a Clean San Diego, and thousands of volunteers celebrated Earth week by participating in the 20th Annual Creek to Bay cleanup. This seemingly small effort lends huge results. Since 2002, 83 thousand volunteers have joined forces and brought in 2.7 million pounds of litter from 350 of our communities! This year an estimated 5,000 volunteers at about 80 locations collected nearly 75,000 pounds of debris in three short hours!

The Conservancy gathered at our Quarry Preserve in the Harmony Grove area. With the help of 14 volunteers, we collected roughly 500 pounds of trash–from primarily the creek and creek bed—and removed over 100 pounds of invasive plants!

It is always so wonderful to see our communities gather to care for our environment and to have the opportunity to work with such fine members of our community. The habitat, the critters who live in it, and the people in the community were very grateful for our efforts.

Future Cleanups:

If you would like to be a part of our future cleanup efforts, we will be hosting another on Saturday, June 4th, at the intersection of Harmony Grove Road and Harmony Grove Village Parkway. Contact [email protected] for more information.
